Handy Hints and Information

  • In running events it is important to Stay In Your Lane, otherwise you may be disqualified.
  • When running or walking in a race always continue past the finish line – do not slow down before the line or stop on the line.
  • The start of the race is very important. Do not look at the starter. Look ahead and listed for the gun.
  • Running shoes or spikes are not recommended for younger athletes. The time to wear spikes is around 12 years.
  • Always pay attention to the marshalls and assist them by doing what they ask.
  • At the finish of the race stay in your lane and wait for your performance ticket, then proceed to the recorders table immediately.
  • Don’t forget to stick your performance slips into your record book.
  • Except for the toilets, the school buildings are OUT OF BOUNDS. The toilets must be kept in a tidy state. The Club is responsible for keeping these toilets clean and any damage in this area during our competition times. The toilets are situated quite a distance away from the oval and for safety reasons children should not go to the toilet unaccompanied.
  • Remember we have the use of the grounds courtesy of Smithfield State High School, so please place all rubbish in the bins provided and leave the grounds tidy.
  • Fighting, horseplay and bad language is not permitted. Athletes who persist with this behaviour will be suspended.
  • The high jump mats are OUT OF BOUNDS unless an event is in progress. Parents please instruct and supervise your children accordingly.
  • Upkeep of the track and equipment requires continual attention and there can never be too many helpers. Your assistance in setting up and storage of equipment each week is appreciated. Remember, this is your centre.
