Welcome back to Marlin Coast Athletics for the 2017 season.
This year we again start off with great news of another one of our athletes being selected as part of the Queensland Under 13 Little Athletics team to compete at the 2016 Little Athletics Australian Championships in Sydney to be held in late April. Twelve-year-old pocket rocket Ollie Boltz is the second athlete in two years to be selected as part of the team, he follows in the footsteps of fellow distance runner Tayla Gunton who took part in the National Championships in 2016.
I have been involved with Marlin Coast Athletics for more years than I can remember, many of those years have been spent wearing the President’s cap! However, this will be my last year as president of Marlin Coast Athletics. My children have long since finished up and moved away and it is now time to pass on the responsibility to someone else. Marlin Coast is unlike any other athletics club – we don’t aim to have the most athletes on the dais at every carnival, we don’t push our athletes until they are exhausted and fall over – what we do at Marlin Coast Athletics is encourage, support and teach our athletes. We encourage them to do their very best in all they do, we support their endeavors and we support the efforts of our neighboring clubs through carnivals, and we teach our athletes the base values of athletics – Fun, Family and Fitness.
It has been my absolute pleasure to watch the children come through our club and develop into fantastic young adults. The pride many of them have shown when they reach their personal milestone never ceases to bring a smile to my face, and that is what has kept me coming back to the club year after year. I encourage the parents of our members to put their hand up when asked to help out or join the committee, you will play an important role on developing out next bunch of stars.
However the year has just begun – so here’s to another great year of family, fun and fitness!
